The Hong Kong Identity Card (HKID) number includes 8 or 9 characters where the first one or two characters are letters, the following six characters are numbers, and the final character is a check digit which can be 0 to 9 or the letter A. The HKID is an official identity document issued by the Immigration Department of Hong Kong, China for all residents of age 11 or older. The HKID number is used for all public and private transactions including registration, employment, banking, and medical services. The HKID number is also used for voting in elections.
